Middle Schoolers

This group is for older kids who were/will be 12-15 years old as of September 1st of the co-op’s “school year.”

The following program components will be explored for this age group at the monthly meetings held on the first Tuesday:

Book Club

Co-op participants in this group will participate in a formal book club by reading and discussing books with their peers and a group leader. After receiving a book, participants will have until the next meeting to read the book and be prepared to share commentary in a guided group discussion.

Book List for fall semester 2023 includes Pollyana, The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe, and My Side of the Mountain.

Important: We are considering replacement options for book club coming spring 2024. Being considered is “Inspirational Art” or “Creative Cooking.”

STEM

This interactive and engaging class will give pre-teens and middle school kids a chance to understand how the world around them reflects science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. With content and activities curated to their level of learning, kids in this class will get a chance to develop a healthy curiosity and comfortability surrounding all kinds of STEM related topics. Often tapping into opportunities for teamwork, this class will offer a hands-on application and discovery opportunity for each of the topics it explores.

Leadership & Etiquette

Students in this class will take a meaningful look at the power of developing social skills, specifically leadership and etiquette.

This class will include both “round-table” style discussions as well as practical hands-on opportunities to engage with the principles being learned.

Topics for the 2023-2024 year include concepts from Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence People, electronic manners, kindness, career planning, and more.
